Shadow Of The Colossus Movie Finally Gets Its Director
No idea how this will turn out...cross your fingers.
Sony Pictures Entertainment has announced that Andres Muschietti will direct the upcoming film based on the PlayStation 2 classic, Shadow of the Colossus. Barbara Muschietti will also be on board to produce alongside Kevin Misher, who produces via his Misher Films banner.
The most recent film with which the Muschietti duo was involved was the breakout horror-fantasy "Mama." The good news is that Andres is a fan of the game in question, and he has a "strong vision for the film and its characters." Said President of Production Michael De Luca:
"We knew we had our director once we heard Andy's take on the material – it was genius. The themes, characters and supernatural elements of the story have incredible international appeal with fans of the game in the millions."
Well, let's hope it's "genius." Because SotC is undoubtedly a genius game and anything less on the big screen would be a disappointment. Still not sure how they'll manage, though, as the game's minimalist story and setting would make it difficult to write a rich, detailed plot and background. There is some lore there (some of which is tied to ICO) but it's pretty basic...
