GameStop "Absolutely Interested" In Pursuing Used DLC

Just don't be surprised if this happens.

Mega-retailer GameStop could eventually embraced "used" downloadable content. This according to executive vice president Mike Hogan, who told Ars Technica that the company was "absolutely" interested in selling secondhand console DLC.

This has been going on in the PC world with games like DOTA 2 and World of Warcraft. But in the console universe, DLC is often licensed to one profile, so it can't be transferred. That may not always be the case, though... Said Hogan:

"It would require a partnership between retailers and publishers, but absolutely, it could go that way. We're absolutely interested in pursuing that. There are lots of examples where people have taken digital content and made it transferable from one consumer to another. Think of World of Warcraft [and its third-party item sales]. There's no fundamental or technological reason why that couldn't happen [on other platforms]. If the consumer wants it, and it provides value, then we believe it will happen over time. The consumer will speak for that."

Hogan added that GameStop is "very bullish" on digital gaming, as they're currently working with platform manufacturers like Sony and Microsoft concerning a used sales model for downloadable titles. Many might say the digital trend is a threat to GameStop's business but Hogan prefers to call it an "opportunity."

Used DLC. What won't they think of next?

We probably shouldn't be surprised. The difference between digital sales and physical usability is getting blurry.

I turned down a used copy of Borderlands 2 Vita for a fresh one b/c it had all 6 DLCs intact.

would be nice to see a way to trade in digital content.
not only would it promote reselling of said content encouraging people to buy it at a discounted price, but it would encourage people to buy it in the safety knowing if they dont like it they can return it.
god knows how many digital titles out there i like the look of and am interested in trying but refuse to buy because, well, what if i dont like them?
not like retail games where you can just take it back.

It would be in their best interest to embrace Gamestop's idea, but of course Sony & MS exist in the all or nothing state of mind. Either they get full price (all) or no sale (nothing). getting some money would increase profits, but they won't ever see it like that.

Of course, if you sell your DLC, you must lose it off your won game first. Tis only fair.
