Resonance Of Fate Now On PSN, And It's Worth Trying

It's one of the more challenging RPGs of the previous generation, and it definitely has a unique style.

If you missed Resonance of Fate when it first launched back in 2010, here's another chance: It's on the North American PlayStation Store right now.

Developed by tri-Ace, this game (known as End of Eternity in Japan) is set in the distant future, where layers of poisonous gas have enveloped the earth. As such, the surviving humans built Basel, a device that could remove the damaging gas, and the game takes place some years after this. The combat system is the focal point, though, as it's basically a combination of real-time and turn-based strategy elements, not dissimilar to Valkyria Chronicles. It's just more complicated and it features a steampunk-like atmosphere.

It's like nothing else out there right now, that's for sure.

Complicated is an understatement, I really cannot stand the combat system of this game. It would all go well until the characters reached low health. Then they start tip-toeing around the environment where I think your meant to collect these shards to recover... but I could never manage to do it!

Also the game has a real poor excuse for a world map where you have to clear spaces on this checkered board by applying these patterns you win in battle... it was just awful, I barely got past 5 hours before I'd had enough.

OMG, I love this game. Its weirdly grindish, and overly complicated. But I've probably put 200ish hours into it.

Vivi, I'll agree with you on the world map and the colored map shards you need to put down to unlock things.

The battle system is really fun.But don't expect it to hold your hand or tell you whats up. RoF throws you right into the middle of it with no guide or description or hints. Once you figure it out, what with direct dmg and scratch dmg. The game becomes a lot of fun.

I was always really interested in this game, BUT I never got it because I heard it is a huge grind, and each battle takes a long time.

I like turn based combat, and hybrids like this, but when you have to grind long battles in a complicated battle system and you lose and get taken back to a far save point I get turned off.

However I am better at games now than I was 4 years ago so maybe I should try this out.

For those who have played this, is it as hard as Nocturne or Digital Devil saga? I got very far in those games and Beat the Latter, Nocturne I got stuck in but knew what I needed to do just never did it. Still think its like the best turn based rpg ever :P

Anyway I loved Valkyria Chronicles is this game anything like that?

The fact that you can't even run about the area but have to battle for every square of distance made me hate the game. It had promise if it wasn't so needlessly complicated.

I lost my copy when I moved a few years ago. I might have to grab it again, and did debate when i saw it yesterday. But do I really need to add more games onto the giant list of unfinished things onto my ps3?

Awesome game though. Definitely something else. It reminded me a lot of Parasite Eve uno, gameplay-wise.

Sadly, the negatives outweighed the positives for me. A lot of things to like, but I did not finish it.

Once you master it the battle system is incredibly rewarding. You need to be very disciplined about how you use your turns, understand enemy weaknesses and be able to anticipate and plan out several turns in advance. You also shouldn't neglect pimping out your firearms. I found that part of the game rather engrossing once you have all sorts of upgrades.

Go to arena for a tutorial on the battle system. Amd once you know how to smackdown enemies, that's when you will start to enjoy the battle system. I did love the world map maybe halfway through the game, especially the bonus system. It's quite unique. Love this game.

I thought I would love this game and I did the love the world it was built in and the steampunkishness to it. I started playing it and wasn't really a fan of some of the almost sidescrollish type in town setup, but no biggie.

However when it came to the combat, I just didn't like it. Was it complicated, yes, but I like complicated, but this just felt like a chore and after a while I just didn't want to battle anymore at all, so I put it aside and moved on.

I ll replay valkyrie profile2 before i play that game .

The demo bored me to death .scratch ,scratch , scratch ,direct dmg and then repeat . Not fun for me having to attack for a couple of minutes so i can start doing some real damage .
