DICE: Yes, We Lost Player Trust With Battlefield 4 Fiasco

Last year's Battlefield 4 launch didn't go well. And according to most franchise followers, that's a gross understatement.

What ensued was a bunch of patches and updates but even many months after release, the game still wasn't up to snuff. Publisher Electronic Arts was previously quoted as saying the brand is as strong as ever, but developer DICE is a little more in tune with the fans.

DICE LA producer David Sirland said he's aware that the BF4 fiasco has had a definite negative impact:

"I can absolutely say that we lost [player] trust in the game's launch and the early parts of the year. We still probably have a lot of players who won't trust us to deliver a stable launch or a stable game. I don't want to say anything because I want to do. I want them to look at what we're doing and what we are going to do and that would be my answer. I think we have to do things to get them to trust us, not say things to get them to trust us. Show by doing."

Sirland added that he's "certain" the launch issues won't reappear when Battlefield: Hardline arrives because "we've changed the way we work." The best way to fix the problem is to give gamers a chance to play the product as early as possible; hence, the previous Hardline beta. Not long after that beta, EA announced a delay for the game, which might be a good thing.

So long as you learn from your mistakes, right?

Since we can't see what you're doing you're going to have to tell fans something instead.

I've loved DICE for a long time. It's a shame they saw the $$$ and tried to adopt the COD format.

Be thankful you guys didn't get shut down like Medal Of Honor. It's not your guys's faults you get rushed to push out a game so quickly.

EA is the real villains here, not Dice. EA, and now followed by Ubisoft, seem to be thinking eye to eye nowadays.

no sh*t Sherlock!
only question now is what your going to do about it.
one of this industries biggest injustices, some of the industries best studios are owned and there by ruined by the industries worst publishers.
EA & DICE, antivision and god knows how many teams.
imagine what BF4 could of been if it was given the attention to detail, budget, and time baking in the oven that GTAV and pretty much all 2K games are given!

every game has server issues look at GTA onlines release!
point was 2K always put a lot of polish and attention to details into their games, and more importantly they take their sweet f*cking time with developing them!
2Ks not scared of spending 5 years developing a game, hell has EA ever spent 5 years on a game in their WHOLE HISTORY!?

The PS4 console arrival was the absolute worst in the history of my gaming. I have been a gamer since the 70's, and I can't remember more of a disappointment.

Was it the system? No. I loved being able to go back and forth and look at the internet. I loved watching awesome YouTube videos with great quality and also watch twitch stuff and gamers play games.

However, it was the games that sucked so bad. But none other than the god awful BF 4.

You guys know I am a big FPS fan. I LOVED BF Bad Company 2. Put hundreds of hours in it. I loved BF 3 to a lesser extent.

But BF 4 was so bad you could not even play it in the beginning. BF 4 was the soul reason I even bought a ps4.

If you tried to play the campaign, it would go back to the main screen at times, resetting itself. When it wasn't doing that it would not let you record the game, and you had to UNINSTALL THE GAME COMPLETELY and reinstall it back, losing all your progress.

Online? You would get booted after 3 to 5 minutes of play, and that is when you could actually GET ON TO PLAY. 64 players on one big screen? FORGET ABOUT IT! That wasn't actually ready until 2 months later!

BF 4 was in no way ready to be played, but they rushed it out and it completely ruined my PS 4 experience.

Oh, btw, all the other games that came out for the ps4 on opening day sucked imo. Those games could have been easily put on the ps3.

Couldn't agree more. I really wanted to like it and have had some good games, but this generation of games and systems have taught me one thing, pre-orders are not worth it. I've been let down too many times. Going forward I will not trust any more developers until the game proves worth buying and clearly gamers of all genre's are coming to tge same realization.

Completely agree with the BF4 assessment. I was new to the game but with so many issues I sold it within 2 weeks. Other than that I'd disagree about launch titles..I mean the majority of the games out where also on ps3 and 360. Killzone was good bit not great. Resogun is a blast..might not be your cup of tea though..

i think we all know that for realy EA screw DICE over on the BF4 launch because of money and shareholders and stuff but i don't think thats any excuse to give us a shoddy as anything product so yeah they do have to re earn that trust but doing making a great game that works from day 1 but thats going to take the dev and pub being co-operative to work so we'll see when hard line and later on star wars battle front 3 comes wether we can trust them again or not

happy gaming
