EA and FIFA Extend Deal
Bad news for all you Winning Eleven fans that hate re-naming your players: Sportsbusiness.com is reporting that Electronic Arts has extended its exclusive licensing deal with FIFA, the governing body of professional soccer. EA has had the license since 1993, and the current deal, which was set to expire in 2007 has been extended through 2014. The financial details of the agreement were not disclosed.
What does this mean? It means EA will continue to be the only company to bring you games with the World Cup, as well as all the real teams and their uniforms. It has been this way for a while, so there's no big impact on gamers, it's just more of the same.
