Rumor: Date Set For MGS 4, Multiplatform Still Possible
Despite Konami's confirmation at E3 that Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots would remain exclusive to the PS3, Xbox 360 owners continue to hope for a multiplatform announcement. Granted, the game was built around the PS3, but a port wouldn't be out of the question...and the debate continues to rage, thanks to recent "insider" information provided by Kotaku.
The following intriguing tidbits are courtesy of a supposed analyst meeting at Konami:
- Metal Gear Solid 4's exact release date will be announced at the Tokyo Game Show.
- President Fumiaki Tanaka of Konami Digital Entertainment stated that release is likely slated for March 2008.
- President Tanaka also stated, "As we are aware of the popularity and hardware-driving power of this software franchise, going forwards we are open to taking this franchise across to other platforms."
We're still waiting for verification of this information, but we do know that it may be Konami vs. Kojima in the ongoing battle regarding MGS 4 going multiplatform. The game's designer has said multiple times he will never bring the franchise to any other platform, but whispers are that Konami really wants a multiplatform release. But either way, we'll be sure to keep an eye on things, and see what transpires.
