Grand Theft Auto IV Delayed Until 2008
And just like that, the monster holiday season gets a lot less crowded.
According to breaking news only recently posted at GameSpot, Take-Two Interactive dropped a bomb on the gaming world today by delaying Grand Theft Auto IV until the second quarter of its 2008 fiscal year. This came completely without warning, as up until now, everyone was basically convinced the game was on track for its October 16 release date. The last report said the PS3 version was "one to two weeks behind" the 360 version, but that's all we had heard. Now-
"Take-Two is reducing its fiscal 2007 guidance primarily to reflect the movement of the launch of Grand Theft Auto IV for the PlayStation 3 computer entertainment system and the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from the fourth quarter of fiscal 2007 to fiscal 2008, due to additional development time required to complete the title," the company said in a statement issued after the Wall Streets markets closed.
Of course, this comes as a major blow to the industry for this holiday season. But at the same time, there are plenty of other blockbuster titles scheduled, and if Rockstar needs the extra time, we think they should have it. Let's not rush Grand Theft Auto IV, okay? We can wait a few more months to get the truly stellar production we're all expecting. Still...we had all hoped to partake of that stellar game in October. 'sigh'
On the plus side of things, Rockstar's upcoming crime/drama game, L.A. Noire, has been confirmed as a PS3 exclusive. See? There's always a "glass is half-full" outlook.
