Valve Explains Half-Life 2: Orange PS3 Delay

As you may or may not have heard, Valve's hotly anticipated FPS, Half-Life 2: Orange Box for the PS3, has been slightly delayed. However, contrary to popular belief, this has nothing to do with the system itself; it's more a question of simple logistics.

Marketing Director Doug Lombardi spoke to Eurogamer and explained the situation: the EA UK team is handling the development, and of course, they're all the way across the Atlantic ocean. Obviously, that team might be a bit behind Valve's core development team. It's too bad the PS3 version won't stay on track with the Xbox 360 and PC versions, but hey, at least it's not a critically long delay.

"We weren't going to hold up PC and 360 for PS3," Lombardi told us, which means the PS3 game will probably be released "around two or three weeks later."

The 360 and PC versions are scheduled to arrive in the U.S. on October 9 and in Europe on October 12. And while PS3 owners will have to wait, they can take solace in the fact that their version won't be inferior in any way. Valve has stated very clearly that all three versions will be mostly identical, which is good news...especially after several lackluster ports for the PS3. But to repeat: the reason for the Half-Life 2: Orange Box PS3 delay has absolutely nothing to do with development issues on Sony's next-gen console.
