Sony: Firmware Updates For PS3/PSP Imminent
The firmware updates keep a-comin', and that's probably a good thing after the small issue the PS3 firmware update 1.92 caused. After downloading that latest update, many users were complaining of Internet connection problems with their PS3, but Sony has quickly whipped up a fix.
According to the newest post by the Director of PlayStation Network Operations, Eric Lempel, over at the official PlayStation blog, Sony has worked to incorporate all the reader comments and general feedback they've received in the past few weeks. This includes the v1.92 issues as well as a couple other suggestions regarding the PSP, which is also getting another update soon.
"Taking into account customer feedback and some internal testing, we will be making available in the next few days a firmware update for the PS3 (1.93) that fixes the network disconnect issue that some of you have experienced as a result of downloading Firmware 1.92," said Lempel. "In addition, we are adding a new firmware update for PSP (3.71) as well, which adds many features that readers of this blog have requested."
While the PS3 update is clearly just a fix for what happened with v1.92, the PSP update is loaded with goodies. The biggest new feature is the ability to set themes on your little handheld; these themes will become available at PlayStation.com, the PlayStation Store, and the official PSP site. You will also be able to play music while viewing photos or a slideshow; simply start playing a track saved on the memory stick, then press the Home or Select button and go to the Photo icon.
Lempel states there are a few other features planned for the update, including the ability to scene search in movies, so all this is definitely good news for PSP owners. The longer you have it, the more functionality it receives! As for you PS3 people, expect to see that v1.93 update soon, so don't you worry about any more connection issues. Both updates should be ready "within the next few days."
