PS3 News: EB Games Disappearing This Week?

EB Games Disappearing This Week?

Being someone who used to work at Electronics Boutique, this is definitely a changing of the guard. It kinda already happened when EB and GameStop merged back in 2005, but even so, this week could mark a momentous change in the realm of video game retail.

If you look around, you'll notice that your local EB is probably already re-branded with the GameStop logo, and if you check out the store locater at the EB Games website, you'll notice very few are left. Corporate officers at the company have made no official announcements as of yet, but this has been going on for a while now. GameStop closed down EB's corporate offices in May of 2006, and with the launch of Halo 3 this week, it's perfectly logical for GameStop to take advantage of the greatly increased gamer crowd and introduce new consumers to the new company name...such as it is.

There was never much of a difference between the two stores, anyway, but the disappearance of Electronics Boutique is significant nonetheless. We'll wait for any official confirmation this week - for now, we can only make some observations with the help of Gaming Target - and assume GameStop will completely swallow up EB. It just seems like a matter of time now.
