PS3 News: PlayStation 3 to Support HDMI 1.3

PlayStation 3 to Support HDMI 1.3

Today, the seven HDMI founder companies, of which Sony is one, released the HDMI 1.3 specification. HDMI is the standard interface for high-definition digital electronics.

HDMI 1.3 more than doubles the interface's bandwidth and adds support for "Deep Color" technology and new digital audio formats. These enhancements will allow devices that support HDMI 1.3 to push more pixels and more colors than those that don't.

In tandem with the announcement, Sony also revealed that the PlayStation 3 will support the HDMI 1.3 standard.

"PlayStation 3 will be the most advanced computer platform for enjoying a wide range of entertainment content, including the latest games and HD movies, in the home," said Ken Kutaragi, president and group CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment, Inc. "By introducing the next-generation HDMI 1.3 technology, PS3 will push the boundaries of audiovisual quality to the next level."
