Midway Announces New Mortal Kombat, Blitz
Midway had other things to announce besides the Unreal Tournament 3 delay - which may not even be an actual delay - and that includes the unveiling of several new titles for next-gen platforms.
They revealed new installments in the Mortal Kombat and Blitz franchises, plus a couple new currently unnamed titles.
"We also expect to release several as-yet unannounced titles such as next generation versions of our hit franchises Blitz and Mortal Kombat, and two exciting new ambitious open world games," said David F. Zucker, president and CEO of Midway Games. "We intend to give more details on our 2008 release schedule in the near future."
Originally, we had thought we'd seen the last of Mortal Kombat with the supposed "final" entry called Mortal Kombat: Armageddon, which released last year for the PS2 and Xbox. But hey, you can't keep such a legendary series down, so it's no real surprise to hear about another title on the way. The last Blitz game was Blitz: The League which arrived on multiple platforms between 2005 and 2006, and it offered a unique football experience that a lot of people really enjoyed.
Midway didn't say anything about targeted platforms or released dates for these games, but we hope to hear more about them in the very near future...hopefully, when they reveal UT3 isn't delayed, and will indeed release this year. That's the news we really want to hear. Come on, Epic, we know you can do it!
