Capcom Unveils Next-Gen Bionic Commando
This probably isn't the gigantic announcement Capcom has promised everyone, but it's still big news nonetheless. According to GameSpot, the publisher has revealed that Bionic Commando, the classic side-scrolling action title that originally debuted back in 1988, is coming back! It will return as a next-gen title for the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC, but doesn't yet have an estimated release date.
Obviously, we'll be looking at a whole new generation of grappling fun; for those of you who don't know, you used a robotic "hook arm" of sorts in Bionic Commando to swing your way through each level. But this time around, that grappling hook for a hand will be multi-functional, as players will be able to use it to rappel down walls, nail enemies at close and long range, and even toss stuff at enemies! Oh, and the storyline will undergo a significant change as well, as Nathan Spencer finds himself on death row after faithfully serving his country. Yup, he was framed. And he's going to have to maneuver through a futuristic environment to clear his name, one that will offer plenty of grappling opportunities.
Capcom has enlisted the help of an American producer, a Japanese creative adviser, and GRIN, a Sweden-based studio. We'll be anxiously awaiting to hear more about this one, because...well damn, it's Bionic Commando!
