Brutal Legend Officially Announced

Today, Sierra Entertainment, a division of Vivendi Games, has officially announced Tim Schafer and Double Fine Production's latest brainchild, Brutal Legend. This one will have the trademark Schafer presentation and appeal, despite being a bit darker and more violent than his recent creations. You will be tossed into the Age of Metal, where things are just a little...crazy.

"Holy crap!" exclaimed Schafer, "I have been dreaming about this day for fifteen years. And now it is finally here. We have gathered small clues over the years about the Age of Metal, in songs, t-shirts, and album covers. But now we have uncovered the metal mother lode, the full legend of what actually happened in that loud and heavy era, and we are the lucky ones who get to tell the tale."

Schafer has produced some of the most memorable titles in video game history, and that includes Grim Fandango and last generation's excellent action/platformer, Psychonauts. Here, Schafer and Co. tell the story of Eddie Riggs, a roadie for a high-powered metal band, which gets thrown back in time to discover its "true purpose." When they arrive in the past, they are offered the wealth and knowledge of an ancient kingdom, but Riggs must develop a legion of his own design first. So, just like any good metal God, he starts gathering up demons, dragsters, and a whole lot of chrome and leather, all brought together to kick off a legendary Tour of Destruction. This head-pounding tour will deliver the archaic land squarely into the grasp of a new age; the Age of Metal.

"Our existence as humans will forever be reconceived," said Martin Tremblay, president, Worldwide Studios for Sierra Entertainment. "Definitive answers to the discovery of dry ice, invention of the wheel, Jurassic era, religious convention and many other testaments and myths are going to be revealed to the world."

This is going to be like no other virtual world you've ever seen. This previously unheard-of period of time saw the inhabitants using some very interesting raw materials...like ROCK, for example. It's a landscape where Big-block V8s are buried like minerals, exhaust pipes hang from chrome trees like giant metal pieces of manly fruit, and the sky is continually lit by the Gods holding up heavenly lighters. Hey, we're only taking a little creative liberty, here; much of this is directly from the official press release.

Brutal Legend will arrive some time in 2008 for the PS3 and Xbox 360. For more information, visit the game's website, and don't forget to check out that debut video we just put up. You must forgive the expression, but this game is gonna rock. 'throws up the devil horns'
