PS3 News: Big PS3 TV Ad Campaign To Hit UK

Big PS3 TV Ad Campaign To Hit UK

Probably due to the fact there were a few more games and a lot more systems available at their launch, the UK release of the PlayStation 3 was actually a good one. But Sony knows this is the time of year to drive the point home, and according to MediaGuardian UK, they're set to provide European gamers with a gigantic TV ad push for the PS3.

They've got one flagship TV advertisement, developed by TBWA/London, and that's going to start assaulting British TV in December. Sony has a lead-in for that, too, as they will launch a series of online ads in advance, starting this week. This time around, the electronic mega-corporation wants to promote the PS3 as "more than a games console" (where have we heard that before?), in that it can play movies, music, and be used as a general "entertainment super computer." The theatrical ad, dubbed "the entertainers," (you can view it here), boasts a bizarre cast of characters including a magician and an acrobat, who are used to show off the capabilities of the PS3. Yeah, it's a little strange, but then again, this is a Sony ad.

"The new campaign is designed to showcase the wealth of entertainment available on PlayStation 3," explained Alan Duncan, marketing director at Sony Computer Entertainment UK.

And even if you're not in the UK, you'll probably see some of these ads, as a few will show up online at the PS3's official campaign website, thisisliving.com. Yes indeed, if you don't promote your product during Christmas time, when will you promote your product?

"To compete in such a competitive market it is important for Sony to get a multi-media message out there to differentiate the product from rivals," said Piers Harding-Rolls, games analyst at Screen Digest.
