Treyarch Brings WWII Back For Call Of Duty 5

As all of you know, Infinity Ward's Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare strayed from the series norm by presenting the player with a modern-day battlefield environment. Prior to this fourth installment, the franchise had always had a World War II background, so many loyal followers were concerned about this change. Obviously, the game turned out to be fantastic and arguably the best of all CoD titles, so they needn't have worried.

But after the Activision/Blizzard merger, Treyarch has picked up the Call of Duty series and - surprise! - they plan to return it to the classic WWII setting, according to Gamer.tm. The source cites a job ad on the Treyarch website, which is for a level builder and requires experience with "first-person shooter or third-person shooter genres." That's normal enough, but it goes on to say, "if you’re a fan of World War 2 shooters, then even better!" Well, that's pretty self-explanatory, isn't it? The only question is, now that Infinity Ward did such a fine job of going modern, do the fans want to see a return to the "great war?"

You can't please everyone all the time; you can only hope to please some people some of the time. We suppose it's possible that the ad is simply reminding us of the franchise's roots, but as this is for Call of Duty 5, it seems fairly obvious they plan to return to the original formula. Let's see if we get a formal announcement on this before the year is out.
