Sony Hears Cries For In-Game XMB

One of the most requested and currently non-existent PlayStation 3 features is the in-game integration of the Cross Media Bar (XMB). Users have been clamoring for this for quite some time, and now, it appears Sony has heard the cries and are considering an update that would make this possible.

In speaking to ShackNews, PlayStation Network boss Eric Lempel said the idea of XMB in-game intergration is "high on Sony's priority list." This comes as good news to just about everyone, as many of us have been hoping for this feature ever since the system's launch over a year ago.

"We are looking at a number of enhancements related to accessing some of the XMB features during gameplay, including messaging your friends," he said. "While there's no timeline to announce at this point, we've heard loud and clear from consumers that in-game XMB access is one of the most requested PS3 enhancements."

See, at this point, it's frustrating to have to quit out to the main menu in order to access the Friends list and our messages. If we could just pull those up during gameplay, it would make the process much easier and smoother. Sony clearly understands this, though, so we should be seeing this happen relatively soon (we hope). Remember, their competition in this matter - Xbox Live - has had in-game messaging for years, so Sony should definitely step up and make it more of a level playing field.
