Final Fantasy Versus XIII To Be Mature?

The video game industry has come a long way in the past few decades, and many of our favorite franchises have grown up right along with us. However, Final Fantasy, despite always containing plenty of fantastical violence, has never shipped with the "M"-Mature rating on it. Squaresoft and Square-Enix have always limited the amount of blood in their FF titles, but this new generation might be seeing a newer, more adult Final Fantasy.

According to FF-XIII.net, it's very possible that Final Fantasy Versus XIII may boast the "M" rating for the first time in series history. If you hadn't noticed, there's a great deal more blood in the trailers and screenshots than we're used to seeing from a typical FF entry, and that's going to translate to "M," not "T." As some of you probably already know, the "Teen" rating is given to titles that include "minimal blood," while "Mature"-rated games "contain "contain intense violence, blood and gore." Now, we're not sure if this is going to offend loyal followers of the franchise, but we can't imagine how it would... We're simply looking at a more adult version of a long-running series that does place fighting at the core of its gameplay.

Granted, this is hardly a confirmation that Final Fantasy Versus XIII will be rated "M," but at this point, based on early media, it almost seems inevitable. Perhaps we can expect the same from Final Fantasy XIII as well...?
