Finally! The rumors, speculation and debate can all come to rest, as Rockstar Games has officially announced the release date for what is to be the biggest game of 2008, Grand Theft Auto IV. As it turns out, the very recent April 25 rumor was awfully close: the release date is Tuesday, April 29, 2008. This is the day when the video game world explodes with arguably the single most humongous title of this new generation.

"We are so excited to be releasing Grand Theft Auto IV," said Sam Houser, Founder and Executive Producer of Rockstar Games. "We've pushed ourselves very hard to make something incredible and hope the game sets a new benchmark for interactive entertainment."

Yeah, we bet you're excited. So are we. Of course, the game is going to have to be pretty amazing to live up to the hype generated over the past year or so, but we have faith in Rockstar. To further cement the date, Rockstar sent out an e-mail announcing the date to info subscribers, so this is definitely official. And remember, after being forced to delay well beyond the initial 10/16/07 release, the team swore they wouldn't provide the public with another date until they were 100% certain they'd hit it. Therefore, we'll go out on a limb and say April 29 is THE day. No ifs, ands or buts. Get ready!
