EA Enjoys Record Holiday Quarter

Electronic Arts may have some catching up to do in the area of PS3 development, but that didn't stop the company from enjoying the single best holiday quarter in their history.

According to Gamasutra, EA has revealed their holiday quarter results, and they're boasting $1.5 billion in total sales, achieved by the excellent movement of titles like Madden NFL 08, Rock Band and The Simpsons Game. On the downside, EA posted losses of $33 million and were forced to delay both Battlefield: Bad Company and Mercenaries 2: World in Flames; the titles now have a vague "TBA" listing. All in all, sales were up 17% in a year-over-year comparison, helped along by leading title Need for Speed ProStreet with 5.5 million copies sold. Not surprisingly, EA gets to boast that in calendar 2007 they were the #1 global publisher with an 18% share in North America and 19% in Europe.

For final fiscal year predictions, EA expects to hit somewhere between $3.462 and $3.587 billion, which is up slightly from previous estimates.

“This was a record revenue quarter for EA and the single biggest revenue quarter for any third party publisher in our industry," said EA CEO John Riccitiello. "While we are disappointed that two titles slipped out of the March quarter, Burnout Paradise is off to a terrific start and we are looking forward to the upcoming launches of Army of Two and FIFA Street 3.”
