Source: Home Launches "Later This Spring"

Like Grand Theft Auto IV, everyone was disappointed when PlayStation Home didn't arrive last fall. Originally unveiled earlier in 2007, PS3 owners (and prospective owners) were very happy to see the Home service, which appears to be a fully-fledged online service. In fact, it has been compared to Second Life, the virtual Internet "life" simulation.

And according to a recent article at WRAL LocalTechWire.com, they make the comparison between Home and Second Life, and in the process, they provide us with a new estimated release date for Home! Sony has gone mute on any launch talk, so it's kind of a surprise to hear this (the source here is somewhat in question), but still... The title of the article is Virtual Life: Sony Nears Launch of Own 3D World, and it says Sony is going to roll out Home "later this spring." This is definitely earlier than expected, as the last estimate we heard revolved around this fall, but perhaps new information is circulating around out there.

We'd ask Sony about this, but the only comment we ever hear regarding Home is "we have nothing to announce at this time." Perhaps they're planning more details for GDC 2008 - Surfer Girl says it's very possible - so we can wait another ten days. Here's hoping!

Home, Home, Home, Home, well anymore I could really careless, I was looking at it in October thinking it would be great to pass the time, but now with so many great games out; and more coming long before HOME I highly doubt that Most people will pay attention for more than 3 weeks. The hype monster has al but died.

I am still looking forward to having a play around but I agree that they have left it a little late. It will be a good replacement for the xmb chat function.

I think it's going to be rather insane.

Sony's really taking their time on this. It would've been a smarter idea in my opinion if they released a public beta earlier and used dynamic feedback from people to help them build the final version.

Definitely looking forward to this service and the comparison to Xbox Live. I have both consoles and I think both will learn from one another which will be good for us, the consumer in the long run.

I think we will all going to be spending some time in HOME, if its to replace how we navigate around the PSN store?

I don't believe Home is designed to be a replacement for the PlayStation Store, although the two will probably connect in some way.

I think Home is a PS3 flavor of SecondLife/MySpace/Facebook, not a replacement to PSN Store.

It's more or less a replacement for the XMB.

No, its a way for the PSN community to become more of. Well, a community. For example: on Warhawk nobody ever talks, on GEARS I have 10 different people talking at the same time, I don't know what it is but there is defiantly a lack of communication on PSN. The only game that anyone ever talks on is Resistance and thats not even a very good example. If anything HOME will make people talk online if it can get that done I'll be happy, or maybe it will be just like online games everyone walking around giving you the cold shoulder. NO ONE EVER TALKING.
o and thanks PSX for giving us the chance to establish a Community here.
