Source: Home Launches "Later This Spring"
Like Grand Theft Auto IV, everyone was disappointed when PlayStation Home didn't arrive last fall. Originally unveiled earlier in 2007, PS3 owners (and prospective owners) were very happy to see the Home service, which appears to be a fully-fledged online service. In fact, it has been compared to Second Life, the virtual Internet "life" simulation.
And according to a recent article at WRAL LocalTechWire.com, they make the comparison between Home and Second Life, and in the process, they provide us with a new estimated release date for Home! Sony has gone mute on any launch talk, so it's kind of a surprise to hear this (the source here is somewhat in question), but still... The title of the article is Virtual Life: Sony Nears Launch of Own 3D World, and it says Sony is going to roll out Home "later this spring." This is definitely earlier than expected, as the last estimate we heard revolved around this fall, but perhaps new information is circulating around out there.
We'd ask Sony about this, but the only comment we ever hear regarding Home is "we have nothing to announce at this time." Perhaps they're planning more details for GDC 2008 - Surfer Girl says it's very possible - so we can wait another ten days. Here's hoping!
