DMC4 Requires 22-Minute 5GB Install?
You can expect our Devil May Cry 4 review this week, but in the meantime, the biggest news on the Internet is the install time for the PS3 version.
According to several sources, including CVG, the game must install nearly 5GB of data to the PS3 hard drive before you can start play, and this process takes about 22 minutes. Now, this is in stark contrast to the Xbox 360 version, which doesn't require any such download, but there's something else- supposedly, the install to the PS3 drive should allow for shorter and less frequent loading. At least, that's what we heard late last year. However, CVG says there's not a significant change in loading times between the PS3 and 360 version. Apparently, it shaves a few seconds off here and there, but nothing to warrant a 22-minute, 5GB install. Of course, we have also heard this install was intended to be optional, but now it appears it's necessary if you wish to play the PS3 version.
We'll clear all this up when we get our hands on the game, and we do hope there's a bit more of an advantage to such a huge install. A few seconds isn't really worth it, obviously, but hey, that's not the prevailing issue, here. All we really care about is which version is best...and from early feedback, it seems both are pretty darn similar, with perhaps a slight edge going to the PS3 DMC4. Stay tuned.
