SCEJ Announces Satin Silver PS3 For Japan
Today, Sony Computer Entertainment Japan has revealed they will release a new Satin Silver 40GB PlayStation 3 model on March 6, 2008. It will come with a silver Sixaxis controller and retail for 39,980 yen.
Those of you who remember the early hype days of the PS3 will recall that silver appeared to be the original color of the system. This was changed to black before the launch, though, and some consumers have been wanting to see this "Satin Silver" ever since. After all, Japan already has a Silver PS2, so it should make perfect sense to release a same-colored PS3. As of the first week of March, Japanese gamers will have three color options when they go to purchase the PS3: "Clear Black," "Ceramic White" and "Satin Silver." Not a bad selection. Let's hope we eventually get the same selection here in North America...
On a side note, this shiny new console will not come with the Dual Shock 3. Sony will be offering a Satin Silver Dual Shock 3 Sixaxis controller on the same day, but interested consumers will have to buy it separately for the price of 5,500 yen. What you see in this picture is the standard Sixaxis...only silver.
