GTAIV Won't Be Censored In Australia
Sometimes, we North American gamers forget that our pals in PAL territories often get shafted when it comes to big-name titles. For example, Australian gamers were worried that Rockstar's Grand Theft Auto IV would be censored for its release down under. After all, while San Andreas wasn't censored (as far as we know), both Grand Theft Auto III and Vice City were edited for the Australian release.
But PALGN contacted Rockstar to clarify the issue regarding GTAIV, and they received the response they wanted- "No GTA has been censored since Vice City. (Grand Theft Auto) IV has been rated in its entirety, the rating is on the OFLC website." Therefore, come April 29 - it's a worldwide simultaneous release - Australian gamers can be sure they're purchasing the exact same version as we are. Of course, this only means the title is left open for potshots from angry politicians and mothers, which could pose a problem. However, neither Aussie or North American gamers should really worry too much about that...Rockstar is going to sell GTAIV, and nothing is going to stop that. If you're of age and want to play it, go for it. More power to ya.
Rockstar was earlier forced to edit Manhunt 2, but that was because the ESRB stuck them with the dreaded "AO" (Adults Only) rating, which would've crippled sales. GTAIV has the standard "M" (Mature) rating (it's 16+ in Australia), so no problems there. Another hurdle cleared, so onwards!
