King Of Fighters XII Ported To PS3 In 2009
Fighting fans may not be as numerous as they were ten or fifteen years ago, but thanks to several legendary franchises, the genre can never die. One of those franchises is King of Fighters, and it appears the latest - and most ambitious - installment will be headed to the PlayStation 3.
According to SNK-Capcom, Playmore JP and Taito will have King of Fighters XII on display at the AOU 2008 on February 16. This entry has been in development the longest of any KoF title, as SNK Playmore opted to build the game from the ground up with a whole new engine. It will be shown using Taito's Type X² and should later be "ported to Sony's PS3 in 2009, with a possible release on the Xbox 360 in the same year." As for the Taito Type X² version, we should expect to see that some time this summer. Obviously, fans of the genre are currently more interested in the likes of Tekken 6 and Soul Calibur IV, but to ignore KoF would be just plain silly...would you ignore another Mortal Kombat if Midway decided to make one? Of course you wouldn't.
Once King of Fighters XII is unveiled next week, we hope to have some screenshots and more info for you, but until then, just be happy it's coming to the PS3 at some point.
