Netflix: Rent And Watch Streaming Movies On Your PS3/360

Netflix, the online movie rental service, recently advertised they had shipped over 1 billion movies to subscribers. Well, it seems the company wants to give their customers direct - and faster - access to their huge library of titles.

According to a recent customer survey, outlined at the Seanbajuice blog, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 owners have a new reason to become a Netflix member. One of the questions in the survey reads- "If as part of your Netflix membership you could instantly watch movies and TV episodes on your TV with your PS/3 or XBOX 360, how likely would you/anyone in your household be to do that?" Well, you can already watch movies on your PC - again, something else that was recently advertised by Netflix - so this would be a logical step, yes? Evidently, the survey goes on to provide the details for movie-viewing with both the PS3 and Xbox 360:

PS3: “Now you can watch movies from Netflix instantly by using your Internet-connected Playstation 3. Simply insert a special Netflix disc into your PS/3 to enable instant movie streaming. The disc is available from Netflix for a one-time fee of $3.”

Xbox 360: “Now you can watch movies from Netflix instantly by using your existing Xbox LIVE account. You can choose from over 7,000 movies and TV series, and your choice starts playing on your TELEVISION in as little as 30 seconds."

There are no additional fees for this service, and there's no limit to how many movies you'd like to watch on your console. What we want to know is if we can stream these movies in high-definition...then this would suddenly become much more intriguing. Hopefully, Netflix will implement this new service soon; we'd definitely like to check it out.

This could be a huge deal for me. I love watching movies and this could be a great way for me to do it. I don't know much about the Netflix streaming service though. Does anyone know if it is free with a normal subscription of something?

The streaming service for PC is free with the normal subscription. It's a great idea it just needs a little work. As of now there is not the greatest selection of movies avaliable for streaming. The quality wasn't the greatest either. I'm sure if they want to attempt to stream HD it's going to be a huge investment.
