PlayStation 3 Sells 1M in UK, Faster Than PS2 & Xbox 360

Great news for Sony out of the United Kingdom; the PlayStation 3 has officially sold over 1-million consoles, and it did it faster than the PlayStation 2. The United Kingdom consists of England, Scotland, Northern Ireland, and the very tiny Wales. It took the PlayStation 2 50-weeks to surpass 1-million sold, where as it took the PlayStation 3 just about 47 weeks.

To put Sony's European fanbase this into perspective, the much cheaper Nintendo Wii took 38 weeks to sell 1-million units, and that makes it the fast-selling console in the UK. Additionally, the Xbox 360, which is also cheaper than the PS3 took a longer 60 weeks to reach the million-marker-milestone.

With EA predicting that the momentum of the PlayStation 3 will put it over the Xbox 360 this year, in terms of sales, and a library of AAA games set to start launching this Spring, things are looking extremely bright for the PlayStation 3 in 2008.

That's good news, but at the same time makes me sad. Even though I own a PS3, I still wanted the PS2 to be like the "shining pinnacle" of consoles.

I'm waiting for the PS3/MGS4 40GB bundle to come out and take the world by storm.

That is impressive considering how much the '3 costs. But then again, Europe was a sure lock for Sony anyways.
Personally, I am eager to see just how many copies of MGS Konami takes in and if the hype was actually worth it. I think it will take in over 500 k here in the states easily.

wow, thats great, I have always told my friends that it would only take a couple of years before the ps3 started to outsell the 360, and with this it is starting to come true, and with the great lineup of games that are coming out this year i think that the ps3 will start catching up much quicker in the us.

"very tiny Wales."
As a Welshman I take offence to that.
I'd like to remind you of a name, Joe Calzaghe. Perhaps you remember when this Welshman beat the hell out of Jeff Lacy or his recent destruction of Mikhail Kessler.
That's what a Welshman looks like. So perhaps some respect is in order?

P.S Congrats PS3!

What's wrong in a country being small? I'm from Lebanon and I it's one of the smallest non-Island country in the world.

Anyway, that's great news for Sony. Can't wait to get my hands on the PS3.

Nothing, really. It's just that 99.5% of those PS3 sales accumulate in the other three regions, so it's just a demonstration of scale.

Sony doing well in the PAL territories? No way. If Sony ends up winning the overall sales battle with the 360 it will be because Microsoft for whatever reason chooses to ignore them completely. Sony does a great job of appealing to everybody, hardcore, core, and casual as well as every territory. This is something that neither the Wii or 360 can currently say.

I'm English and Calzaghe is my favourite boxer. The first fight I seen of him wasn't that long ago, when he fought Evans Ashira with an injured left hand and still won. I didn't know who Joe was as I'm not that big on boxing but would watch it sometimes. It was an instant liking to Joe just from the way he boxed, and I could tell he was naturally a double-hard bast*rd. My own adrenaline was pumping watching that fight and the same to all the fight there after. No other boxer has got my adrenaline pumping like that, pure entertainment.
I do have to say he was born in London and has Italian roots, but you knew taht anyway.

I think Arnold description of Wales being tiny was meant by population size or scale. You did make one mistake arnold, you said United Kingdom consist of Great Britain when you should of said England, as Great Britain is United Kingdom.

For what the PS3 costs I would say its more impressive than PS2 and Wii was when they reached 1 mill.

Good catch. Fixed. I wanted to say something about G.B. but felt it wasn't important - probably still had it on my mind when writing.
