Lost Planet "Lightning Fast" After 5GB Install
This idea of installing a massive amount of data to the hard drive in order to play a game may concern PS3 owners, but at the same time, it does have its advantages. These advantages were arguably significant after the mandatory 5GB install for Devil May Cry 4, but they're supposedly even more noticeable for Capcom's next PS3 project: Lost Planet: Extreme Condition.
According to one source, dbtechno.com, the 5GB install for this solid mech-based action title makes the game "lightning fast." A lot of people have been complaining about this sudden trend of installing a large chunk of data (Capcom is the only developer doing this with the PS3, as far as we can tell), but this source says the Lost Planet install is "well worth it." They say it takes around 15 minutes, but once completed, load times are "pretty much non-existent throughout the majority of the game." Essentially, they're saying that the time you clip from the load times adds up to be more than the time you have to wait for the 5GB install. Well, good...because that's kinda the point.
The only question is, how many other developers are going to adopt this required HDD install? It may be beneficial, but if a lot of games start doing this, we could run out of hard drive space awfully quickly... But on the plus side, Lost Planet: Extreme Condition really does move along much quicker once the install is done.
