EA Makes SKATE Official

A few days ago, you may have heard a few rumors flying around about EA developing a skateboarding game to rival Tony Hawk. It was also cited that the developer behind the game was EA's very own in-house Canadian studio Black Box. Well, the cat's out of the bag (who really keeps a cat in a bag, really?) and EA has now confirmed the suspecting reports as being absolutely true. EA intends to go toe-to-toe with Activision's massively popular Tony Hawk series by developing a skateboarding game that is so unlike anything we've ever played before that it's bound to make waves.

Featuring decorated skaters Danny Way and PJ Ladd, EA promises this by implementing a control scheme that will deliver an experience that is true to life, but at the same time highly enjoyable. They revel that their physics-driven animations will ensure that no two tricks performed look the same. How this will be implemented obviously remains to be seen, as the game is not scheduled to arrive until sometime in 2007.

Because this will be a multi-platform game, the possibility of the PS3 version having an exclusive control scheme to make use of its motion-sensing is unknown at this point, as well. But one thing is for sure, EA promises that SKATE will deliver all the style, fun, creativity, and culture of skateboarding without the countless hours of practice, broken bones, and hospital visits."
