"No Secret" That Crysis Is Coming To PS3

Well, it's back again. There's just no killing a rampant rumor, especially when certain sources continue to claim that it's true.

According to the latest issue of UK gaming magazine, PSW, the statement made is both clear and perhaps somewhat surprising- "it's no secret Crysis is coming to the PS3." Oh yeah? ...since when? The article goes on to say the game won't be a direct port of the PC version, and it will actually be "an almost 50% new game." All of this comes as news to us, but here's the paragraph that has the Internet in a bit of an uproar (source- onAXIS):

"First up, we have Crysis. Now it's no secret that Crysis is coming to PS3 this year. The excitable, hard-worked coders over at Crytek have said as much in many interviews - they've even produced a new, multi-platform engine in readiness - but the real juice here is that it won't be a straight conversion of the PC game. We understand PS3 Crysis will be an almost 50% new game, with many of the original games staff taken off PC Crysis months before release to begin to work on Crysis 2 and a port to PS3 that will include aspects of the sequel - but a new structure, environments, weapons and enemies will feature on PS3. This should be one of the year's biggest console shooters."

Crytek has continually denied that Crysis would ever appear on consoles, although they did say they were planning a PS3 production of some kind. At the time, they said it wasn't Crysis, but something else entirely. Was all that just a cover? Will PS3 owners really get this hot FPS? For now, all of this is nothing more than speculation, but we'll keep a close eye on it; perhaps Crytek will issue an official explanation soon.
