PS3 Software Outselling PS2 Software In UK
The PS3 enjoyed its best launch in Europe by a long shot, primarily due to a greater availability of systems and software. The 1-year anniversary of the system's launch is coming up on March 23, so SPoNG decided to check on the PS3's software sales in comparison to its predecessor (the perennial king in just about every region).
After checking with Chart-Track, it seems that in terms of software units sold, the PS3 has been outselling the PS2 since last month in the UK. Furthermore, when looking at "sales in terms of value," (PS3 games cost $10 more than PS2 games), the numbers have been in favor of PS3 software since the start of 2008. For February, 9.4% of all software units sold were PS3 titles while 8.3% were PS2 titles, but we have to remember that sales of pre-owned titles can't be tracked, and thus, aren't included in these results. We imagine far more used PS2 games are being sold, but even so, these numbers are still encouraging for the PS3 and PS3 owners.
Obviously, the PS3 has a long way to go before it catches the PS2 in any region, but at least in the UK, it is already performing at or above the rate of its predecessor. Nothing wrong with that.
