EA: PS3 Version Of NCAA Football 09 To Run At 60FPS
Last year, PS3 owners were very disappointed to learn that Madden 08 would only run at 30 frames per second on their system, while Xbox 360 owners would get a version that ran at a far more impressive 60 frames per second. EA hasn't exactly adapted to the PlayStation 3 hardware, but they've sworn to improve, and perhaps one of the first examples of that improvement will be NCAA Football 09.
According to a recent GameTap interview with product manager for the game, Kendall Boyd, this year's college football title will run at 60fps...for both the Xbox 360 and PS3. Just to clarify, his exact words were- "The PS3 version will run at 60 frames per second." See? There it is, in black and white. He also talks a great deal about the completely overhauled physics engine, an enhanced playbook, and the gameplay in general, so you might want to read the complete interview. But considering how important frames per second is for any game, we believe the most important part of the entire interview is obvious: the PS3 version - yes, the PS3 version - will run at what we're hoping will be a silky smooth 60fps. All we really want is the same experience the 360 owners get with EA sports titles, and we really don't think that's too much to ask.
Of course, with all new development tools from Sony and teams rapidly gaining more hands-on experience with the PS3, this whole mess will soon be a distant memory. In fact, Sony has already said that most third-party developers are already starting to create games first on the PS3 rather than the 360, which is going to change things a great deal.
