Could Yakuza 3 Come To North America?
The original Yakuza turned out to a very solid game and an enjoyable experience. We stepped into the shoes of a truly bad-ass underground mafia warrior, and we followed a surprisingly good storyline while beating on hordes of enemies with our fists and other weapons.
Unfortunately, Sega must've decided the sales numbers weren't good enough to bring the sequel to North America, and there haven't been any plans to release Yakuza 3 over here, either. Well, not yet, anyway. According to the very unofficial VGChartz, Yakuza 3 (a PS3 exclusive) has sold about 113,000 copies on its very first day in Japan! Coming in at a distant second would be Metroid Prime 3 for the Wii at 20,000 units. Now, even if these numbers are a little off (and given the source, they might be), it's still pretty obvious that Yakuza 3 is a very hot item. Therefore, we're hoping this is enough for Sega to allow other regions to sample the promising title. We like great action games, too, you know!
Remember, we're not talking about a Japanese RPG that North American gamers rarely go for (unless it's called Final Fantasy), we're talking about a gritty action game with plenty of attitude that should appeal to just about any avid gamer. And if it's doing so well in Japan, wouldn't PS3 owners everywhere want a shot at it? We think so, and we think Sega has a good enough reason to break the Japanese border with Yakuza 3. Cross your fingers!
