Midway: New Mortal Kombat "This Year"
Yeah, we knew it. They said Mortal Kombat: Armageddon on the PS2 would be the final installment in the legendary fighting franchise, but we knew Midway was pulling our leg. MK can't die! Not ever! Maybe they were only referring to the last generation, or something, because Midway boss David Zucker has confirmed our suspicions: a new Mortal Kombat title is headed our way this year.
For now, we have no details on this next-gen fighter, but we can expect to see the game for both the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Much like EA, Midway really isn't into this whole "console loyalty" thing, so an exclusive MK would make little sense. Zucker said the following to confirm the new title's existence:
“…our focus really is not so much on the number of games as it is on creating games that are going to breakthrough and doing a better job of that historically. Games like This Is Vegas and of course you got Mortal Kombat game this year and others that we think have potential to give us higher unit numbers.”
It's certainly news to us. We haven't heard anything about another Mortal Kombat for this new generation, but we figured it'd be coming eventually. This year is certainly earlier than expected, though, so let's hope the details start to flow very soon!
