Public Home Beta Test Hits This Month?

We continue to hear rumors about a possible public beta test for Sony's PlayStation Home online service for the PlayStation 3; a closed beta has been going on in the UK for quite a while. And according to recent reports, it seems the public test may arrive in North America as early as this month!

According to dbtechno.com, members over at the official PlayStation forums are being told to link their forum accounts with their PlayStation Network account in preparation for the public beta. Evidently, this information has already gone out to European gamers via e-mail, and this e-mail is expected to head to gamers in the US as well. This message tells users they must link their PSN account name to their PSN user ID before March 16, 2008. Last month, the rumor that Home would be entering a public beta in March thrived, even though Sony wasn't about to issue any announcements at the time. Of course, they're still mute on the subject, but with so many sources indicating a public beta will become a reality soon enough...well, we're gettin' pretty excited.

If it is real, and if the beta really does become available this month, we'd expect plenty of information to arrive within the next week or so. How to sign up (and who can sign up) should be the first bit of info, for example. So stay tuned for any updates!

The fact that Sony has been quite mum about HOME lately means I'm taking it with a grain of salt... As much as I am looking forward to HOME, it may just be a small step toward the beta, but that doesn't necessarily mean it'll happen right away. I think Sony would have said something about a public beta by now if indeed it were to happen around the 17th.

I'd LOVE to be wrong though. Seriously, this waiting is killing me.

maybe this is all it is, merging the two account systems... personally, it doesn't make much sense to have seperate accounts for different services from a single company.

i am tired of waiting for home- seriously and i strongly believe sony is not going to release a beta now. but remember they said during "spring of 2008" so maybe they will actually release the actual home than just a beta.

Just keep in mind, Sony as far as I know never says anything about it's firmware and PSN updates until the moment they're available. The final product, I expect them to talk a little though.

I don’t know if this lends weight to the rumour of HOME, but FW 2.17 is out today.. no one (as yet) knows what it does…..

Just Except it people: THERE WILL BE NO PUBLIC BETA! when Sony finally releases HOME in Fall (just a guess). They will say that's the public beta because it will still be full of bugs and everyone will figure it out, then leave. And maybe after HOME fails, and the world stops turning, and maybe the moon spins away, Sony will release to us the one thing that they have needed sense launch. And you know what, I'm not even going to say it, I'll just tell you what its not "HOME". That is all

I couldn't even believe when they released a T-shirt at GDC making fun of the fact that they didn't have it, and us PS3 gamers wanted it more than anything. THE MADE A T-Shirt TO MAKE FUN OF US!!!!!!! A T-Shirt
