GTAIV Will Cost $120 In Australia
Occasionally, certain regions just get shafted when it comes to certain video games. This time around, it's Australia and Grand Theft Auto IV, which is gonna cost the Aussies an arm and a leg, according to confirmed pricing reports from Kotaku and Rockstar.
It seems GTAIV will carry a retail price tag of $119.95 in the land down under, and no, that is not for the special Collectors edition...that's just for the standard edition. This price is the same for both the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of the game, too, so don't think you can save some bucks by purchasing one over the other. As for the Collectors edition, you'll have to be prepared to shell out $149.95. Now, the difference between US and Australian funds isn't that huge - $60 is about AU$65 - so essentially, gamers in Australia are going to be paying double for GTAIV. This just sounds insane, doesn't it?
Rockstar hasn't issued any comment besides confirming these prices are correct, so we're left wondering- why the massive cost? Has this happened before with GTA installments in Australia? Does it cost that much more to distribute the game over there? Extra air time for the airplanes means a lot of extra gas, after all, and with gas prices the way they are... Yeah, but still, these are pretty hefty price tags. Sorry, Aussie gamers.

Stores like Target, Kmart, BigW (these are Walmart equivalents) sell them for AUD$79 (USD$73) in the week of their release. That's the cheapest you'll get from a retail store, but you can get pretty much any big game at that price in it's first week.
And yes, it's much cheaper to import. PS3 non-region locked games FTW.
