Metal Gear Solid Collection Available Now

One of the year's best gaming sets has finally arrived to store shelves nationwide. By now, there are sets of Metal Gear Solid: The Essential Collection for the PlayStation 2 available in all major retailers all across North America. The collection features the original Metal Gear Solid pressed on PSOne discs, the director's cut of Metal Gear Solid 2, and MGS3.

"The Metal Gear Solid series created a unique stealth action genre within videogames, and subsequently became one of the most popular game franchises in the world," said Anthony Crouts, Vice President of Marketing for Konami Digital Entertainment Inc. "Now gamers have the chance to experience the evolution of a groundbreaking series in one collectible package. Metal Gear Solid: The Essential Collection is an amazing value for gamers.

The Essential Collection is the ideal way for you to reunite with the Metal Gear Solid saga, in anticipation of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. For a mere $29.99 you get three of the best games of all time, two of them being the director's versions, as opposed to the originals. There simply isn't a better gaming value out there. Make sure you pick this up immediately.

great! release a near-perfect collection on a dead last-gen console, and snub your growing install base that bought the backwards-incapable 40 gig. next time, try releasing excellent compliations on blue-rays and give people incentive to buy the PS3. it still seems like more games are appearing for the PS2, the gaming equivalent of weekend at bernie's 2. let it go to the grave.

You're forgetting that the PS2 is still outselling both the PS3 and the Xbox360. Also you can burn PS2 games onto a Blu-ray, but the non backwards compatible PS3's still won't be able to run them BECAUSE THEY ARE PS2 GAMES. The media they come on is irrelevant.

It makes sense to put this out on PS2 because:
1) it's backwards compatible with PSone, so can play all of the games; and
2) Konami aren't up for any programming costs since nothing is being changed, their only expense is packaging and shipping.

As to the sheer number of games being released, it's irrelevant if the quality sucks (just ask Wii owners).
