Resistance 2 "A 50 Gig Game"
When it was revealed that Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots would take up about 50 gigs worth of space on a Blu-Ray disc, it was one of the biggest news stories of the year. Just about everyone was talking about it, and now, it seems they'll have something else to talk about.
If you check out this video that features Sony's Scott Steinberg and Naughty Dog's Evan Wells, you'll hear something very intriguing. After talking about the Blu-Ray victory, the current state of the PlayStation brand and the future of gaming in general, a small bombshell drops: it seems the upcoming Resistance 2 will also be a "50gig game." Now, one of the biggest benefits of Blu-Ray has always been the amount of space available, but 50 gigs is definitely pushing it. Some believe Konami simply needed to do some compressing work to keep the data in check, but if that's the case, why would Insomniac use the same amount of space for their blockbuster? ...perhaps because they can?
We'd like to get a clarification on this issue from the game's developers, but until then, this is bound to spark plenty of debate. MGS4 uses 50gigs, Resistance 2 uses 50gigs; what the heck is going on around here?

I think companies now need to give the gamers more ability to think outside the box and give us mods, customization man! thats what it all comes down to, because thats what keeps gamers playing because it never gets old!

they are stupid
im sure they just put uncompressd multichannel audio and use MPEG1 or MPEG2 HD video on tthe game.
its just ridiculusly stupid . . .
its better if they just put all of the media on high compression format like H264 and ogg audio...
it wont take much space, and the free-space can be used for better things, like hmm, a trailer? ROFL

A good example is the Gears on DVD for 360 all the videos was of a poor quality and the quality of the ending video was like something from youtube only in hi-def resolution.
If the space is there, then use it, why have blu-ray if a game is so compressed it only takes up 8gb of space, small enough to fit on dvd.
