GameStop Predicts $50 Price Cut For Both PlayStation 3 And Xbox 360
Whenever a hardware price cut hits, the manufacturers are almost guaranteed an increase in sales. It's just the way of the world; if it's cheaper, more consumers are willing to shell out the cash, and both Sony and Microsoft are well aware of this fact. Both systems have already received price cuts in the past, but could the respective prices drop again in 2008?
According to several Internet sources (PS3Fanboy, GameDaily, etc.), GameStop certainly believes it's going to happen. Evidently, they held a conference call recently, and they predicted a $50 price cut for the PS3 and Xbox 360 some time this year. GameDaily reminds us that this is nothing but speculation, though, as neither manufacturer has actually issued any confirmation. It's merely an educated guess on the part of the retailer, but hey, this retailer has its finger on the pulse of the gaming public. They have sales numbers right at their fingertips, and both Sony and Microsoft are continually checking these statistics.
Will GameStop's prediction become reality? Only time will tell. But it would certainly make sense to drop each console by $50 for the holiday season (always a savvy move), and if one manufacturer drops the price for their system, the other is likely to follow suit. One must always keep pace, yes?
