RSV2 Plagued By Network Problems
Everybody deserves some time off, but sometimes, things go awry when important individuals take their much-deserved vacation - or holiday - time. Last year, an epidemic struck Xbox Live over the Christmas break; it was so bad, online players couldn't really count on the service for over a week, and Microsoft later apologized and offered a free Arcade game for all those annoyed users. ...and if Microsoft offers anything for free, you know it had to be a major issue.
Well, the Easter holiday has apparently wreaked havoc on the PlayStation Network, although it appears to be game-specific. Joystiq reports many readers complaining about connection issues and severe lag when trying to play the recently released Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Vegas 2 online. Now, we assume Ubisoft is aware of the problem and are rousting the relevant employees out of their respective beds to fix the error(s). As I type this, it's about 12:30 a.m. ET, so we wouldn't advise trying to play RSV2 online until the team has had a chance to sit down and get to work. If you're really desperate and aren't convinced that Ubisoft has been made aware of the problems, you can probably send them an e-mail. But by this time, it seems highly unlikely they're oblivious.
If we start seeing e-mails from readers complaining about playing other games online, we'll be sure to let you know. For the most part, the PlayStation Network has been quite reliable since the launch of the PS3, but every online system has its snafus every now and again. Let's just hope this isn't widespread and only affects Rainbow Six Vegas 2 (sorry, RSV2 players).

But to be honest, when I had RSV1 the online game was just as laggy, if not worse, the only real difference is that you could get in to more games.
RFOM imo is the only game that hasnt had these sort of problems, I always get a game in, it has never lagged for me, just amazing.. yet you would of thought that Ubisoft with all their exp under their belt would of been better at this sort of thing.
the problesm with RSV2 is one they should fix soon, and theres been such an uproar that im sure they will, but personally speaking I have been getting games, they have lasted over ten mins..
Granted theyre not the first games I pick because like PSN HAITAN_JB, I get that message a lot! but i do play the games and when they arent too laggy its great fun.
Infinity Ward said they didnt expect so many people playing CoD4, thats why the servers couldnt handle it, but you cant use that excuse with RSV2.
Also there are NO dedicated servers for RSV2, that could be part of the problem.. the connection is only as good as the host, again thats something UBI has to sort out ASAP.
but for me theres plenty of single player and CoOp fun offline to be had until they fix it, and you can still gain your A.C.E.S offline which is great!
...plus imo I think it a great game! so far im loving it.

but offline, I think its very good. forget what the Xbot fanboys are saying, Ubi did a pretty good job. I cant comment if the 360 ver is better, and I honestly couldnt care less. but from what I have heard from 'real' gamers is that there isnt much between the games at all. and personally think it plays as well, if not better than RSV1.
Im sure Ben or AK will review this soon, and I hope they dont crucify the game because of the online side, tho they are quite sensible when it comes to that sort of thing, I'll be interested to see if they like it.
I know if I was to grade the game myself I would probably give it a solid 8/10 ...lol

I guess its a bit like the reviews for Lair.. when this new patch comes out, will people re-review the game?
on a personal note, I have only ever brought one game for online, and that was UT3. Even with CoD4 I naievly brought for the single player game. But as soon as I finished that I was hooked online.
so with RSV2 and all the terrorist hunts and CoOp missions/ split screen games I have spent days just dying, killing and dying (in that order), I love it and could quite forget that online ever existed.. but as you say, that is my opinion, and I know a hell of a lot of people have brought this game for online play and are very very unhappy.
but as CoD4 was broken for months, I hope RSV2 will be fixed in days, the community is not happy and I believe that UBI blood may be spilt.
lets hope UBI do sort it, and that what ever review PSXE gives is a fair one for the game. no point letting ones eyes get all hazy and rose tinted just for the sake of a good reivew, this isnt Gamespot (lol)..
but all that said, I wouldnt change my score. for me personally online isnt the big thing about this game, and what it does as a stand alone R6 game, imo I think it does it very well indeed. but i do agree with what youre saying Shadow, if I was more interested in Online, I would certainly mark it down.

sometimes its hard to see both sides of the coin when youre in to games as much as we all are, I used to really hate Microsoft, but now I appreciate a lot of what they have brought in to the industry. mainly theyre a great target for a joke (lol).. no, seriously I love games, and what they bring to us.
Its the same situation for R6, I want to say that every R6 game should get 10/10.. because I loved R6:3 so much, but when you get stung badly with R6 Lockdown, you just cant trust R6 any more. I fear this is why Ubi should be consentrating on getting this right for us on the PS3.
I was amazed that the sequel to RSV1 was still in Vegas, I thought how could they pull that one off? and in terms of single player I guess they have made a better game, but the more I think about it the more I remember the online in V1 was rubbish compared to games like CoD and RFOM, so really youre right, the Online really should of been smooth as butter.
apparently the patch is coming! http://www.destructoid.com/ps3-vegas-ii-getting-patch-soon-because-patches-make-everything-better-77369.phtml
it does make me laugh how bitter people become when this sort of problem hits a game, but I do sort of agree with the link above. The main reason that Console games have always been better than PC (imo) is the quality in the making of the final product, rarely did a console game ever need a patch, because there wasnt a way you could ever upload one, you would habve to recall and reissue the game. So they made a decent game in the first place!
now it does seem you can sell a sub standard product only to release a patch on day 1, day 20, day 46, day 105, etc etc ..
I do hope this isnt the trend, because that is what seperated the console from the PC, having online shouldnt be a safty net for sloppy programers.
