MGS4 Not The Final Series Entry?

The announcement of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots was bittersweet for big fans of the franchise, primarily because Hideo Kojima revealed it would be the very last installment in the legendary series. However, we've heard this from him before - in not so many words - so many followers are still hoping for a MGS5. And thanks to something Ryan Payton said in the latest Kojima Report podcast, those hopes may soon become a reality (even if it's not technically MGS5, but another title in the MGS realm).

According to, Payton and the other guys started talking about the special pre-order disc, Metal Gear Saga: Volume 2, which is exclusive to North America and Europe. Payton began explaining the case for Volume 2, and why it would look so pretty on the shelf alongside Volume 1 (the pre-order bonus for Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence). But he took it one step further:

"Have you seen the Metal Gear Saga: Volume 1, do you have that? It's in that same kind of clear DVD case, it's designed [indecipherable], it's got that embossed silver on it. We designed it just right, right next to the Volume 1, so if you put it on your shelf, it's gonna be, you know, symmetric, and it's going to look like a collection, so hopefully if there's a Volume 3, it's gonna look--" (what cames after this is tough to make out because Mark McDonald cuts in, but it sounds like Payton says, "it's gonna look awesome."

Er...if there's a Volume 3? Well, as Kombo theorized, if the first was a pre-order bonus for MGS3 and the second was a bonus for MGS4, then... Yeah, you can see where we're going with this. Truth is, Kojima has tried to leave before, and the fans basically freaked out, which in turn prompted him to stick around. Can MGS ever really die? Perhaps not.

OMG! MGS isn't gonna end at 4? No shit sherlock. As far as I'm concerned you have to be incredibly naive to think that the series was actually gonna end. They may turn the series in a new direction, we may see an extended wait time for 5, Kojima himself may no longer be involved, but no company, no matter their motives, is stupid enough to just let there biggest cash-cow (I don't neccessarily mean "cash-cow" in a derogatory sense) disappear.

Maybe he'll finally do a remake of the orgional Metal Gear and tie the story between Big Boss and Snake together. Would also be a good move considering he already has the script and story so all he would really need to do is get the game running on the MGS4 engine and then do the voice overs.

Well i wasnt expecting a MGS5 but there is a gap between Portable Ops & Metal Gear 1. So I'm hoping for a Portable Ops 2. "The Downfall of Big Boss" Making Outer heaven, & seeing if Big Boss joined the Patriots.

MGS4 will probably be the last Metal Gear SOLID. But i never believed it would be the last of the Metal Gear franchise. MGO practically proves that.
I'd guess we'll have to wait till we see the story of MGS4 to know where the overall story goes.
P.S Anyone wondered if this "last of snake" thing might be a ruse to get us all thinking he will die in MGS4, only to have a twist pulled in the story? Which will probably be twisted again and again then around, up, down and all around in true MGS story fashion?

I think it'll be the last of Snake but someone else will take his place and become the new "go to" guy. Only way a a series will actually end is if a game is crappy...and even in most cases that still makes people make yeah considering MGS4 is probably going to be a sure fire LAST? doubt it!

I'm pretty sure that we will never see another Metal Gear Solid, unless it is a remake of MGS1. MGS4 will finish the main story but there is always room for remakes or portable ops sequels.

They never said this was going to be the last MGS game, just the last game with Solid Snake. To me it seems like they're prepping Raiden to take over again from MGS5 onwards.
