Sony: Sixaxis To Be Discontinued
Earlier today, we saw the official launch announcement for the long-awaited Dual Shock 3 controller. It ships out today and will be available for purchase in stores across North America next week. But did you ever wonder what might happen to the Sixixas? After all, the DS3 is essentially the exact same gamepad, only with rumble built in.
Fortunately or unfortunately - depending on how you look at it - it seems the Sixaxis is definitely on the way out. According to the MTV Multiplayer blog, a Sony representative said the following-
“Sixaxis will no longer be offered after it’s completely sold through at retail (likely by the summer timeframe).”
Hence, the original controller that came packaged with the PlayStation 3 won't last the year. So if you really despise the force feedback for some reason, we suggest you run down to the store and pick up a regular ol' Sixaxis ASAP...or, you could just wait for the Dual Shock 3 and disable the rumble feature. Same difference, really. Well, we assume the DS3 is probably a good bit heavier, and despite what we've heard, we also think using the rumble feature a lot will take its toll on the life of that lithium battery. We'll have to see what's what next week, but in the meantime, prepare for the discontinuation of the Sixaxis. It's a-comin'.

I had an original PS1 and it was wired, no analog sticks and no rumble (I eventually got dualshock when it came out) and it never really bothered me when I played games. Even now for most games I play I still use the D-pad and turn off rumble.
SixAxis, you will be missed. Super light controllers aren't the norm anymore I guess.
