THQ: PS3 Could Potentially Have Superior Graphics To Xbox 360
Ever since the launch of the PlayStation 3, Sony has been heralding it as the most powerful console available, although Microsoft would claim the Xbox 360 was equivalent in terms of potential. These days, though, it seems more and more developers are starting to uncover aspects of the PS3 that could be shifting the balance of power in favor of Sony. Take THQ's Jeff Carroll, for example.
In speaking to Videogamer.com at THQ's Gamers Day event in San Francisco this past week, Carroll said the PS3 has the potential to "achieve better graphics than the Xbox 360." Carroll is the associate producer of the upcoming Red Faction: Guerilla, and he believes that once devs decide to dig further into the PS3, they will "find a very powerful system underneath." If you're not aware of the premise in his game, we must inform you that THQ is changing the standard first-person format to a a third-person format for this new RF installment. It will enjoy a simultaneous release on the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC during THQ's fiscal year 2009, and we're certainly looking forward to it. When prompted, Carroll said they feel as if they're "doing rather well with the PS3."
"We have been getting the physics system, the Havok system and our own proprietary destruction system running on the SPUs, as well as our animations. We're seeing quite a decent speed improvement now that we've effectively got that running on the SPUs instead of the CPUs."
Of course, it was no secret that many developers were having serious trouble getting accustomed to the more complex hardware in the PS3. Obviously, it was no picnic early on for Carroll's team, either, but once they got into it, everything apparently started to gel. He said they "felt a tremendous pressure right at the beginning to learn as much as they could about the PS3," and they just had to expend more effort. In the end, when asked if he thought we'd see better graphics on the PS3 than on the Xbox 360, Carroll said-
"I think potentially you will. I think early on people are going to be struggling to figure out exactly how to make the PS3 work. But I think once they do they will see it's a very powerful system underneath."

ps3 is so much better.. trust me i had a xbox before i got the ps3 and i hated it, no customization what so ever the ps3 completely towers over the xbox, the only thing the xbox has over ps3 is possibley halo and gow other than that... nothing at all... i dont even think live is that great.. you still have to pay for everything and that sucks once Home comes out it's going to be the only system worth buying the games are better, the interface is better, the whole experience is WAAAAYYY better like i said i had both systems and i had the xbox before the ps3.. once microsoft stops killing our wallets then i buy another untill then, SCREW XBOX

Epic actually screwed some of the gameplay up through patches. They kept changing weapon damage, slightly changed cover system mechanics twice, shotgun distance, and they actually tried to make it so you couldn't play with you r friends by not letting you see the hosts name. You could NOT invite friends, either. Only in unranked games where no one played could you actually invite your buddies. They changed it so it just said "Host" as the name on the server list. That really pissed me off. They make a game that is entirely team based and try to keep you away from your friends.
As if all of that wasn't bad enough, 75% of games would have glitchers in them. The glitches were game breaking. Like constantly sprinting while they fire a shotgun or hiding outside of the map until time ran out. Of course, you could only experience these glitches if you actually got to play a game. Waiting for people to enter a room so you could play usually took 20 minutes. Epic also tried to give out 4 maps for free but Microsoft made them charge $10. I am done with Xbox.
$50 a year. The best game lags and has glitches that were never fixed. Yet they take the time to screw up perfectly fine parts of the game through patches. The community features on the game suck. Nice.
Sorry to rant. On topic. Of course PS3 will have better graphics than 360, but it doesn't make me any happier than I already am with the system. Xbox had better hardware than PS2 but I didn't care.

Developers have had long enough now to be producing top end spec utilised games on both systems and imo that would push the PS3 out in front in terms of graphics. I just hope that developers aren't restricting the titles on one console or another to keep them the same.
I say they should make each release the best they can and if one console produces a better experience then that's just the way it is. Even if this means the 360 rules the roost.
