Pachter: EA Could Delay GTAIV
EA has had difficulty making friends with gamers over the past year or so, and this probably won't help matters.
Industry analyst Michael Pachter has dropped a mini-bombshell of sorts, and it's not going to go over well with the millions who are anxiously anticipating April 29. Yeah, that's the confirmed release for Grand Theft Auto IV, but if EA is able to finish up the Take-Two takeover, April 29 could end up being just another day. According to Pachter, EA has "an economic incentive to delay [Grand Theft Auto IV]." That incentive, if you couldn't guess, is to take advantage of the far more lucrative fourth quarter, and Pachter reminds us that Take-Two needs to get this game out because they need the money. EA, on the other hand... They may be willing to tick off a lot of gamers and simply wait until the holidays to rake in as much profit as humanly possible.
Now, this is nothing more than speculation, of course. There's a chance that the EA/Take-Two deal won't even go through, and if it does, there's nothing saying it goes through before GTAIV releases. Furthermore, even though the fourth quarter always yields bigger results, we can't imagine that kind of significant delay when the game is already done. Let's all hope that Pachter's theory falls flat this time around.
