TGS 2006: Everything Metal Gear Solid

We gave you the Gran Turismo rundown because it had plenty of TGS news, so now here's your Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots fix.

Connected Storylines: The series has always had a strong focus on plot, and it appears they're going to link many of these top-notch stories in future installments. For example, the Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty digital comic, announced last week, is "directly connected" to Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, according to Hideo Kojima.

"Metal Gear Solid 2's story is directly connected with 4, which is now in production," said Kojima. "Before 4, we'd like you to definitely play it." The new digital comic should arrive in Japan at some point in 2007.

For further MGS 4 story links, Kojima talked about the new PSP title, Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops: "If you change the Ops story, you have to change 4. If you change 4, it also becomes necessary to change Ops. Until Ops is finished, 4's story can't be finalized."

Repeat after me: Metal Gear PSP Bundle: Speaking of Portable Ops, Konami is apparently teaming up with Sony to produce a PSP/MGS bundle pack. It will also feature pins and a case. No word yet on which regions will get this deal, but hopefully, it will be a worldwide offer.

Metal Gear My Page: Kojima Productions are currently working on launching this website in December, which will allow fans to create a personal MGS database and even write their own stories. Looking down the road, Kojima had this to say- "I think that around ten years from now it would be great if we could make Metal Gear Solid 5 with the support of fans." It's certainly a provocative thought.

Kojima Blog-to-Book: We'll assume this bit of news is exclusively for the truly hardcore: Kojima's blog will soon be published in book form in Japan. They've yet to solidify a release date.

We were hoping to see more in the way of a full MGS 4 preview at TGS, but all we really know is that it's still set for 2007. This didn't stop Konami and Kojima from making their presence known, though.
