PS3 Tops Weekly Charts In Europe
The PlayStation 3 suffered through some of the most negative press in the history of the industry early last year, but the turnaround in late 2007 and early 2008 has been so drastic, the system is suddenly topping sales charts. This is in stark contrast to laboring at the bottom of those same charts a year ago.
And while we don't always put a lot of stock in VGChartz, they probably aren't too far off in last week's total sales...and the PlayStation 3 beat every other platform in Europe last week! Yep, that does include the perennial Nintendo kings known as the Wii and DS, which is one hell of an accomplishment, especially considering the success those two systems has enjoyed recently. As you can see by these results, it was definitely a close race, but the PS3 did emerge victorious after the week ending March 29. Sony's next-gen console topped 150k sold in all European territories, easily outstripping the Wii and Xbox 360 and just eking out a win over the massively popular DS. Hopefully Sony releases the official numbers soon, but in the meantime, we're hoping these results are mostly accurate.
Now, the key is to maintain this momentum throughout the year and especially when going into the holidays. If Sony can do that, they'll be well positioned to have a huge impact in 2008. Oh, and the awesome software will help a great deal, too.
