Yamauchi: "Additional Refinements" For GT5
Gran Turismo 5: Prologue looks absolutely amazing - you're missing out if you can't watch it in full high-definition - and Gran Turismo 5 will look even better. Perhaps you don't think that's possible, but GT series creator Kazunori Yamauchi says there will indeed be visual refinements for GT5. In addition, he says we still have a long way to go before the game industry can catch up to the CG we often see in movies.
According to a recent interview with Videogamer.com, Yamauchi talked about "additional refinements" to GT5, which we're already drooling over even without seeing them. Prologue boasts some of the most unbelievable graphics we've ever seen...can it really get that much better?
"In terms of quality we've been able to establish a benchmark in this version, but I think with GT5 there will be additional refinements, perhaps to the lighting and maybe the weather effects," Yamauchi said.
In the movie realm, we've already been treated to the likes of Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within and Final Fantasy: Advent Children, but Yamauchi thinks games really aren't capable of this CG level just yet. In fact, we're a good 10 years from seeing stuff like that in interactive entertainment.
"Real-time computer graphics are about 10 years behind non-real-time computer graphics like you see in movies," he said. "I think that gap is what we'll be trying to fill in the years to come."
That very well may be, but even so, we're plenty happy with the advancements made so far. Perhaps we'll see even higher resolutions and even crisper visuals in the future - and we're even counting on that - but for now, we'll marvel at what we've got.
