All Metal Gear Solid 4 Products Explained in Detail
The official PlayStation Blog has put up a rather large entry detailing all of the available Metal Gear Solid 4 products in full. They begin by describing the bonus DVD you receive for pre-ordering MGS4. This Metal Gear Saga Vol. 2 DVD is bound to end up a rarity, much like various other MGS products, such as MGS3: Subsistence LE, Document of Metal Gear, and a few others. You get the Saga DVD in addition to the Metal Gear Online Beta voucher code, which is redeemable between April 17th until May 5th 2008, and gameplay running between 4/21 and 5/5, which we find usually limited. The voucher codes and Saga DVDs should be available at most retailers that accept pre-orders, but supplies are limited. The Saga VD contains "extensive original video content", and highlights the connections between all four Snakes: Big Boss (Naked Snake), Liquid Snake, Solidus Snake, and Solid Snake. The DVD also features every MGS4 trailer released and a prologue video to MGS4.
We've also been given the final box art of the standard edition of Metal Gear Solid 4, and it looks awesome! Purchasing the game will also give you the Metal Gear Online Starter Pack, which Sony also details. They explain that MGO Starter Pack is "a full and complete multiplayer component of MGS4." The details continue, as they mention that when you pre-order your copy of MGS4 from GameStop, you'll get an exclusive MGS4 Art Book. And of course the price for MGS4 will be the standard $59.99.
The blog entry then details what the Limited Edition pack of MGS4 will contain, and we are given a box art of that, as well. The LE package will be available only at GameStop, and nowhere else. Naturally, it includes all of the features of the standard game, including the pre-order goodies. Everything will be within a collectible box that features exclusive artbook from Yoji Shinkawa, an additional Blu-ray disc with two separate never-before-seen MGS "making of..." documentaries, and the MGS4 soundtrack. The Limited Edition MGS4 will retail for $84.99 at GameStop only.
Next, Sony reveals the entire box of the PlayStation 3 MGS4 bundle, which makes this the first time a PS3 is released in a white box. The PlayStation 3 itself is labeled with a Metal Gear Solid 4 tag at the very bottom, and will be the 80GB model of the system. Beyond the console lies a DualShock 3, as opposed to a SixAxis, and a copy of MGS4.But Sony isn't done. A Limited Edition version of the PS3 bundle will also be available, and this one will be extremely special. Not only will gamers get a PS3 with MGS4 LE, but the PS3 will actually be a different color: Gunmetal Grey. They've yet to reveal the box art for that PS3 bundle, but we do have an image of the actual gunmetal console itself.
Finally, the blog entry stresses that the MGOnline Starter Pack isn't some sort of demo of the final thing. It is a full fledged product, boasting customization of characters and their abilities, as well as a bunch of maps, weapons, items, and so forth. The community will feature stats, communication, and what Sony and Konami promise to be other never before seen features. So why call it a Starter Pack? Because Konami says they've got a plethora of downloadable content, including maps, weapons, items, and much more. We can't wait.
