Home Not Included In Firmware 2.30

It's easy to let rumors spiral out of control, which is why we always want to keep things grounded for all you fact-finders out there.

Yesterday, one major rumor regarding PlayStation Home and the upcoming PS3 firmware update 2.30 began to circulate throughout the Internet. The belief was this- the PlayStation Store and Network was receiving a major upgrade (which should be just about complete now), so what better time to drop in Home? However, there were several problems with that theory, and the biggest one centers squarely on Sony: they weren't about to let this happen without an official announcement. Sure, they enjoy teasing consumers every now and then, but they're not the biggest fan of huge surprises, and on top of which, they need to promote this program. Sony executives have hinted at an open Home beta, but not a one has led us to believe that Home will arrive this month...or next month, or the month after that. Here's what Sony's Noel Silvia had to say on the official PlayStation blog:

"Despite what some rumour mongers would like for you to believe, no, Home is NOT a part of this update."

The bottom line is simple- Sony has not confirmed an exact launch date for PlayStation Home, an open beta may be coming to the US soon (but we don't know when), and finally, it most certainly won't be included in firmware update 2.30.

Oh well, it was too good to be true, I guess. Just like the FF 7 remake rumors :(

And slowly, the hype surrounding home begins to fade away.

@karneli: ┬┐begins? The hype surrounding home has all but died. Certain sites, this one included still look forward to it and I'm moderately intrigued to play with it, but the majority of PS3 owners (gamers on other platforms even more so) couldn't care much less about Home. Sony announced this thing way too early, if they had waited till November to announce it people might still be excited about it, but after it became clear the release date fall release date was not even close, the hype began to fade. So it begun to fade like 8 months ago.

I'm still interested though not as much as I used to be. I've drifted a little from gaming and so Home will hold less appeal for me than if it had released last year when I was still gaming more frequently. 30 minutes stints of GTp every so often is about all I'm managing now.

more and more do I appreciate LIVE!, and less and less do I really even care about home, because the dang thing will never be released. It's an advertisement teaser to throw in commericals. Not that I was expecting it, especially after that leaked info last month with the dates of alot of different things.

Do Sony have any idea that:

1. The community hype is destroying the excitement about wanting Home.

2. Telling people nothing is making everyone loose interest..

I know im nowhere near as excited as i was before. Now my attitude to Home has gone from "Oh i can't wait!!!" to "Whatever"

Sony should just release whatever part of Home they have completed. We don't need everything working from day one. The Home demo or Beta I was in a few months ago was great. The apartment was open the bowling alley and arcade room worked great. The movie theater and the indoor forum was completely functional. There were only maybe 25-35 people in there at one given time but Home was working.
