MGO Beta Patch Takes "Hours" To Download
The Metal Gear Online beta starts on Monday, but in the meantime, we're trying to prepare you for what to expect. And if you're the impatient sort, you might want to pay attention to the following.
You may already have the beta code, and you may have already downloaded the beta, but there's one final step: you have to download a major patch before the beta can actually begin, and from what we've heard, it's going to take a very long time. You have two delivery options, and according to PS3 Fanboy, one of them involves peer-to-peer connections (BitTorrent). This is an "hours-long download," and even worse, it's not something the PS3 can do in the background. Hence, you better not have any plans to play anything while downloading this patch; it's probably better if you set it up and go get something to eat.
However, most will view this long wait as well worth the time, just because you'll be able to test one of the most anticipated online games in history. MGS has been online before, but MGO will be the most fully realized online effort ever, and avid fans are just itching to get started. Just be sure to give yourself some time...

After the download has finished the uploading seems to continue until you go to the next screen. So if you are downloading the patch and aren't planning on using your PS3 immediately after, leave it uploading for others if you have the time.
